I've seen this movie, and read the book, countless times. If I were to re film it, Carmen Sternwood would be the lead character. The first time I watched The Big Sleep, I dismissed Carmen within the first 60 seconds, but she has grown on me ever since. Is it Martha Vickers's performance? Is it the conflict between how Carmen is portrayed in the film and the book? Who knows...
